Shriners Hospitals for Children - Chicago is looking for a full time Occupational Therapist to join our hospital and rehab team.

The Occupational Staff Therapist Position provides evaluation and therapy services, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transition of care, in an efficient, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive manner upon licensed independent practitioner referral.  

Provides comprehensive compliant and safe clinical care demonstrating the philosophy of family centered care, a commitment to the achievement of optimal patient outcomes in alignment with the standards of practice of their professional organization. 

Works with medical staff and the multidisciplinary team to design and implement individualized plans of care to meet the needs of the pediatric patients and their family.  Functions as a team member and develops leadership skills through activities such as: mentoring, and providing education to students and other professionals. 

Upon referral, implements a systematic patient examination and evaluation utilizing a comprehensive, patient and family centered approach to decision making incorporating the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model and the AMA CPT Codes.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to design and implement intervention, utilizing evidence base practice, for patients of diverse ages and diagnoses based on their evaluation and ongoing assessments. 

Makes appropriate discharge plans by collaborating with patients, their families, care managers, SHC team, and community resources such as schools/outside therapy clinics, while actively participating in multidisciplinary meetings.  Supports risk management and compliance initiatives through accurate, thorough documentation, which follows the state requirements, payer specific requirements, regulatory and professional standards to include correct use of AMA CPT Codes and/or HCPCS codes when applicable.



Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program (minimal requirement)

 

Experience

One-year of OT practice experience preferred

Pediatric experience preferred

New graduates considered

 

Certification AND Licensure

Licensed in state of Illinois

CPR/BLS

PCS, OCS, NCS, and CHT preferred

 

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge, skills, and abilities in working with children at various levels of care.

 

Ability to work independently, work within a multidisciplinary treatment team, and collaborate and/or coordinate services with team members.

 

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with children and families of different developmental levels and cultural backgrounds.
