Job Description


In approximately 18 to 24 months, the services currently located in the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Houston will transition to the Shriners Hospital for Children-Galveston location.


Shriners Hospitals for Children – Houston, located in the heart of the prominent Texas Medical Center, has an immediate opening for a full-time Occupational Therapist whose focus will be to treat a population of patients from our in-patient pediatric rehabilitation program.

Through our dynamic team approach to treatment you will encounter and treat pediatric patients from birth to 18 years of age with complex rehabilitation needs.  Common diagnoses encountered here include cerebral palsy, osteogenesis imperfecta, spina bifida, SCI, TBI, arthrogryposis, and amputation.  The ideal candidate for this position has experience with a pediatric population of patients as well as have a strong neurological/rehabilitation background.

Job Requirements

Required Education: Must have at least Bachelor degree or certificate program in Occupational Therapy.  

Required License/Certification: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Texas. Completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider Program required within 30 days of employment.  

Training and Experience:
Minimum of one (2) year experience as an OTR is preferred.  Knowledge of trends and techniques specifically relating to Occupational Therapy and Orthopedic care, or a willingness to learn this.  

Skills and Knowledge:
The therapist must demonstrate competencies in provision of occupational therapy services and work well in an interdisciplinary setting.  Must be able to maintain assigned work hours and perform the essential functions of their jobs. Customer service orientation a must; bilingual in Spanish/English desirable.
