Exciting opportunity to join our world-renowned pediatric burn hospital with Harvard affiliation and pioneering research.
We are currently seeking qualified and talented candidates to be our next Director of General Services.

 Position Overview:

Reporting to the hospital Administrator, the Director of General Services is responsible for the overall planning, direction, coordination, and financial performance of Maintenance & Engineering, Construction, Biomedical, Food Services, Environmental Services, Laundry, Security, Safety and Parking. The Director will be a key member of the hospital's Senior Leadership team. Will actively serves on multiple hospital committees and key Hospital Board level committees. Responsible for supporting and executing the hospital's strategic vision, mission, values and directives as established by the Administrator and the Board of Governors.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepares and Maintains an Annual Operating and Capital Budget for the General Services Departments:

  • Ensure that all departments stay within their approved operating and capital budgets

  • Provides monthly reports and analysis of budgets to the Finance Committee.


Plans and directs building and ground improvements:

• Provides proper documentation and specifications for all new building and ground improvements.

• Effectively coordinates renovations and construction projects with other departments.

Experience overseeing and managing outside contract services is essential.

• Assures that all work is completed in accordance with all local, state, and federal codes and regulations.

Maintains a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance Program for the entire building:

• Oversees the implementation of a comprehensive building management and preventive maintenance program for the hospital and grounds.

Directs and maintains an effective cleaning and sanitation program for all hospital areas:

• Implements and manages an on-going Environmental Quality Control Program.

• Ensures that all waste streams are managed in accordance with all city, state, and federal   regulations.

• Ensures compliance with all hospital-wide infection control policies and procedures, and Department of Public Health and CDC regulations.

Directs and coordinates safety activities for the hospital:

• As the hospital’s Safety Officer ensure that the hospital maintains compliance with all local, State, and Federal regulations as well as The Joint Commission standards.

• Develops and implements safety-training programs for the following areas: Fire Safety, OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, Security, and Emergency Preparedness.

• Responsible for compliance with The Joint Commission Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Preparedness standards.


Maintains a Comprehensive Hospital Security Program:

• Working closely with outside vendor, responsible for the oversight and implementation of a comprehensive security program.  

• Responsible for the oversight and implementation of a hospital-wide visitor pass, card access and vendor management system.

Responsible for organizing and directing the activities of the General Services Department:

• Interprets and implements hospital policies and procedures.

• Establishes annual goals for the department and provides reports to the administrator on their progress.

• Effectively administers performance management and salary administration program.


Responsible for organizing and directing the activities of the Food Services Department:

• Provides direction and oversight of the Food Service department.

• Clearly defines and communicates hospital goals and objectives to the Food Services manager.

Manages hospital parking services:

• Maintains up-to-date accurate information on all owned and leased parking spaces.

• Keeps administrator and staff informed of parking issues.

            Job Requirements

            Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. Certification Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) required.

            Ten (10) years plus management experience, specifically in General Service departments. Management experience in a healthcare environment strongly preferred.
