Job Description

The Corporate Director Nursing Excellence works with the SHC Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in the management of system-wide nursing resources and objectives identified in Nursing Executive Council Operating Plan. The Corporate Director Nursing Excellence has operational, functional, and financial responsibility for select strategic nursing initiatives including but not limited to Lippincott Procedures and other system-wide educational on-line initiatives.

 

As a voting member of the Nursing Executive Council, the Corporate Director Nursing Excellence works directly with the Directors of Patient Care Services/Nurse Executives to standardize nursing practice and clinical processes to ensure delivery of high quality evidence based practice, incorporating research, and teaching activities. The person in this role ensures nursing care is implemented in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and FOCUSED™, the Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) Professional Practice Model.  The Corporate Director Nursing Excellence cultivates and maintains professional relationships at Home Office and SHC locations to enhance patient and family experience with nursing services to positively impact core clinical and strategic measures.

 

In the absence of the CNO, the Corporate Director may be asked to assume responsibility for the scope of the CNO’s responsibilities.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Nursing Practice/Nursing Leadership 50%

  • Collaborates with SHC Corporate leadership, as well as the Nurse Executive Council and Directors of Patient Care Services/Nurse Executives to encourage and promote nursing excellence. Serves as a catalyst for change to ensure SHC is recognized as a global leader in pediatric specialty nursing practice.

 

  • Demonstrates and actively promotes a positive professional practice environment that encourages system-wide engagement, recruitment, retention and recognition of SHC nursing.

     

  • Facilitates and/or co-leads select department level system-wide monthly meetings (i.e. Outpatient Managers, OR Managers/Directors, Inpatient Managers, etc.) to identify and drive best practice and systemness.

     

  • Works collaboratively with members of the Medical Affairs department to ensure synergy of key nursing focused programs and strategic objectives.

     

  • Identifies, supports and participates in opportunities to promote SHC nursing and patient care services at local and national conferences to further enhance SHC nursing prominence in pediatric and specialty health care arenas.

 

  • Under the direction of the CNO, creates a system-wide individualized orientation plan for newly hired DPCS/NE’s to create a meaningful and measurable onboarding experience.

  • Travels to SHC hospitals as needed upon request of the CNO.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Project Management 50%

  • Assumes primary responsibility and accountability for initiatives, projects and work groups assigned by the CNO. Updates the CNO regarding progress, timeline adherence, performance indicators and potential barriers to full implementation/adoption.

 

  • Participates in the development, review and revision of the Nursing Executive Council Operating Plan ensuring the Plan aligns with the SHC Strategic objectives. Develops communications related to NEC Operating Plan and other related accomplishments for system-wide dissemination. 

 

  • Works collaboratively with DPCS/NE’s, educators and others to foster a climate of open communication and mutual problem solving activities related to NEC and SHC strategic objectives.

 

  • Communicates clearly and accurately both verbally and via written communications. Develops and maintains systems for disseminating information throughout SHC nursing, other departments and SHC Marketing and Communications.

 

  • As the System Administrator for the Lippincott Procedures, is responsible for program development, review and ongoing management of this system-wide project and programs including conducting audits to ensure compliance with related SHC policies, learning environments and clinical outcomes.

Job Requirements

The qualified candidate will have experience in the following areas

  • 10 or more years of advanced nursing leadership experience required

Minimum Education Required/Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field required

  • Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred

  • Florida RN License required

  • Nurse Executive or Advance Nursing Executive Practice certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Demonstrates comprehensive nursing knowledge and skills

  • Willingness to support efforts to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of nursing services system-wide

  • Ability to manage conflicting and time-sensitive priorities                                    

  • Excellent leadership and team facilitation skills                                                   

  • Strong communication skills – both oral and written                                   

  • Strong computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
