Job Description

Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Erie is looking for a part time Certified Medical Assistant  (32 hour), Monday through Friday various hours two-week pay period.  The manager will determine the needed schedule. 

The Medical Assistant supports the medical and nursing staff in providing care and comfort to infant, toddler, preschool, school-age, adolescent, and young adult (up to age 21) patients during outpatient clinics by performing routine clinical and clerical tasks.    

Assists physicians, nursing staff and other health care providers with procedures and the intake process.    Measures height, weight, and vital signs. Assists with medical history and documents in the computer under the direction of medical staff.   Transfers and assists patients to examining rooms and other departments as necessary.

Maintains examination rooms. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.

Performs other duties as assigned, such as but not limited to, inventory of supplies and assists with the collection of monthly stats.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.   
  • Successful completion of certified medical assistant program.
  • Certification required by the American Association of Medical Assistants preferred.     
  • Minimum 2 years recent medical assistant experience in clinic or physician's office preferred beyond internship.
  • Pediatric patient care experience preferred.   
  • Proficient in organizational skills to include planning, multi-tasking and time management. 
  • Medical terminology helpful. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the outpatient department. 
  • Must be comfortable working within an electronic medical record.
  • Requires alertness and attention to patient's health condition and concentration to access the needs of the patient appropriate to his/her age.
  • Requires lifting up, carrying, ambulating and transferring patient.  Prolonged standing at clinics and sitting performing desk/computer work.
  • Must possess strong team member skills and fully embrace a family-centered model of care delivery.
  • Competent in computer related skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Current BLS certification required.
