Job Description

The Budget Analyst is responsible for reviewing budgeted Volumes, Gross Charges and Operating expenses to actual performance to identify variances and resulting cause/analysis on a monthly and annual basis. The Budget Analyst is additionally responsible for recommending changes to funding levels needed, along with recommendations for cost saving opportunities.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing budget proposals on an annual basis in order to consolidate into a system-wide master budget.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Annual coordination of the upcoming budget year hospital and headquarter submissions to consolidate into a system-wide master budget.  -  10% 
  • Provide ongoing review and analysis of hospital budgets to understand variances in volume and gross charges with rate/volume analysis identify areas of cost efficiencies in operating expenses and to determine whether budget adjustments are justified based on performance.  -  40% 
  • Provide ongoing review and oversight of certain headquarter department or program budgets to understand variances, identify areas of overall and departmental cost efficiencies and to determine whether budget adjustments are justified.  -   20%                                                   
  • Provide monthly reporting to summarize budget variances and cause analysis.  -  25% 
  • Aid in the creation of budget related board reports.  -  5%

Job Requirements

The qualified candidate will have experience in the following areas

  • 5 or more years of hospital-related budgeting required 

  • Prior experience in budget variance review and analysis required 

  • Previous experience in providing advice and technical assistance with cost and detail analysis, fiscal allocation and budget preparation required

  • Previous experience in collaborating with various groups, facilities, and/or entities required 

  • Excellent mathematical ability and analytical skills required 

  • Strong attention to detail required

     

Minimum Education Required/Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Ability to work well with others.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in MS Office databases and suites 

  • Experience with data warehouse reporting
