Title: Health Information Management Technician

Job Summary:
Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland is seeking a full-time Health Information Management
Technician to join our team! This position is responsible for performing various HIM functions and
responsibilities including processing non-electronic requests for information, issues with the DNFB,
and other duties as assigned.
* Assist in resolving any portion of the merge process (at the facility level) identified by the
Duplicate Specialist.
* Processes all walk-in requests for information and all paper based records including,
microfiche/microfilm, or records stored in any offsite locations.
* Serves as the Physician/Provider Liaison to resolve any chart completion concerns or issues.
* Assists in onboarding new physicians.
* Identifies and resolves any issues with the DNFB and Provider Hold report to ensure accounts
are coded in a timely manner.
* Assists in completing monthly Closed Chart Reviews.
* Prints and provides medical record reports as requested by internal departments as well as for
external needs including providers for continuity of care, insurance/payment related requests,
and logs information into HIS Tracking Application in SCHIS.
* Participates in departmental process improvement activities.
* Adapts to changes in the work environment and re-prioritizes work, as necessary.
* Continuously looks for and makes suggestions on ways to improve work process and systems used.
* Maintains a satisfactory attendance record to ensure the essential duties of this position are
handled in an efficient and timely manner.

* Performs other duties as assigned by the HIM Director/ Manager
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
* High School diploma or equivalent
* 1 year prior office or customer service experience
* Computer/keyboarding skills and working knowledge of office equipment operations
* Ability to accurately relay information and communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a
tactful and courteous manner with peers, management, internal/external staff
* Ability to multi-task and work well in high-stress situations
* Capable of working independently and as part of a team
* Proficient with computers; specifically, proficient with Microsoft Office products
* Ability to elicit and practice cooperation and demonstrate positive morale
* Organized, detail oriented, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
* Graduate of an approved Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health
Information Administrator (RHIA) program-American Health Information Management Association
(AHIMA) credentialed or eligible
* 1 year prior healthcare experience in medical records processing operation, physician office,
or business office.
* Prior medical terminology knowledge/education
* Prior exposure to electronic medical record and/or document imaging systems and other
healthcare computer applications
