Job Description

Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Shreveport is looking for a full time Registered Nurse who will work night shift (12am-8:30am).  This is a benefit eligible 80 hours per pay period position.  The staff nurse provides, coordinates, delegates and evaluates care for the pediatric orthopaedic surgical and ambulatory care patient and non-surgical patient.  Possesses knowledge of peri-operative and post-operative care including dynamic drug therapies for pain management and competency in assessment and monitoring.  Assesses patient condition and care needs and implements a plan of care to meet needs from Admission to Discharge, and provide expected outcomes.  Supports and advances the practice of professional nursing.  Performance is reflective of the mission, vision, and values of SHC. Promotes quality patient care reflective of National Patient Safety Goals and nursing standards of practice. Maintains effective communication with all levels of hospital personnel, patients and families. The staff nurse schedule requires shift work, weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime as needed.

Job Requirements


  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

  • Registered and licensed as a Registered Nurse by State Board of Nursing for Louisiana   

  • BLS and PALS certifications, or obtained within 1 month/ 2 months of employment, respectively

  • Able to lift, stand for extended periods of time, move quickly from place to place, follow written and verbal instructions, withstand frequent bending, some kneeling, high degree of manual dexterity

  • Minimum of one year experience in direct patient care on an acute care nursing unit required

  • Work experience required in a hospital setting

  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, recognize abnormal sounds, follow written and verbal instructions, remain focused with minimal stimuli, read monitors from a distance

  • Demonstrates manual dexterity

  • May require reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching or stair climbing

  • Routinely required to lift, push, or move a light to heavy weight patient, equipment and/or supplies

  • Communication skills, computer, FAX, copier and phone skills required 


  • Bachelors in Nursing preferred

  • Pediatric and/or orthopaedic experience preferred

  • Experience in a pediatric critical care or acute care setting preferred
