Job Description

REVENUE CYCLE ANALYST

 

Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California, the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury and pediatric subspecialties medical center, is looking for a highly motivated Revenue Cycle Analyst to become part of our Revenue Cycle team.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be a valued member of the Revenue Cycle Team.  The position will ensure the accuracy and completeness of charges and supporting documentation for services rendered by the hospital and physicians.   Some of the departments this role will interact with include, but are not limited to, Surgical Services, Medical/Surgical, ICU, Outpatient Clinic, Laboratory, Physical Therapy, and Radiology.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Receives general supervision from the Director of Financial Services and Revenue Cycle Manager within a framework of Hospital based policies, procedures and bylaws.

 

RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY: This position will have the following responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Daily charge reconciliation in accordance with established charging policy and procedures. 
  • Investigate and correct any issues identified during the department charge reconciliation process
  • Maintain strong working relationships through frequent interaction with department managers and medical staff within the outpatient and inpatient clinical programs.
  • Write and maintain narratives for charge capture processes, in accordance with hospital policy and procedure
  • Write custom rules for areas identified where current charge capture or coding processes do not effectively capture all charges. Prepare and submit any corrections to patient accounts such as late, missing, or lost charges, credits or billing adjustments.
  • Identify and/or investigate and correct any issues that prevent optimal and compliant billing.
  • Educate, train, and assist departments regarding billing issues and best practices.
  • Understand the relationship between documentation and charges and be able to link the charges on the bill with the documentation in the medical record.
  • Develop an understanding of the operations, system processes and procedures used at the hospital
  • Compile information and/or prepare reports and analyses setting forth results of reviews with appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
  • Coordinate interaction with various hospital department representatives to gather supporting documentation or clarification of any audit discrepancies.
  • Obtain and interpret hospital protocols and policies as required.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

Knowledge of:           

  • Knowledge of various software applications, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and various billing software.

  • Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid requirements, HCPCS guidelines as well as ICD-10 and CPT coding.

  • Understands chargemaster process

     

    Ability to:

  • Typing and computer skills sufficient to use a computer keyboard for timely and accurate input and production of computer generated documents.

  • Demonstrates the ability to write clear, concise, reports for senior administration

  • Writing, using proper English grammar, spelling and punctuation, sufficient to compose clear, concise correspondence.

  • Organize and to establish priorities, be flexible to changes in priorities in a setting with a high volume of patient activity and frequent interruptions.

  • Review and interpret a wide variety of reports, projects, procedures, and to recognize problems and make recommendations to implement appropriate changes.

  • Demonstrate the ability to educate others.

  • Demonstrate confident presentation skills when presenting issues to small and large groups of individuals

  • Work with diverse personnel, both faculty and staff.

  • Manage and/or coordinate other groups when working on ad hoc projects.

     

    Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent in skills and experience.

  • Some college or additional Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration or Medical Record Sciences preferred

  • Minimum of 1-2 years previous office, healthcare or data entry experience is required.
