In approximately 6 to 12 months, the services currently located in the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Houston will transition to the Shriners Hospital for Children - Galveston location.


Shriners Hospitals for Children – Houston, located in the heart of the prominent Texas Medical Center, has an immediate opening for a full - time Physicians Assistant .

Through our dynamic team approach to treatment you will encounter and treat pediatric patients from birth to 18 years of age with a complex array of orthopaedic and rehabilitation needs.


Position Summary:

Under the supervision of multiple attending physicians, the physician assistant performs history and physical examination assessments, primarily in the outpatient setting, including tracking and evaluation of imaging studies and laboratory tests. Plans of care are developed and reviewed with physicians for complex patients with a wide variety of congenital, developmental, and acquired musculoskeletal conditions. Skills in cast application and cast management are advantageous. Regular duties include the outpatient clinics during operational business hours, hospital academic activities (pre-op conferences, journal clubs, teaching rounds, etc.), and monthly overnight outreach clinic trips. Some duties may extend to the inpatient floor.

Job Requirements

Education: Graduate of an AMA (CAHEA) approved Physician Assistant program with an associate BA/BS

License/Certification:

  • Current NCCPA; certification/license in good standing with the State of Texas
  • Current CPR 


Training and Experience: Education plus 3-5 years post graduate experience in orthopedics preferable

Pediatric Orthopedics preferred


 
Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates clinical competence & excellence in decision making
  • Strong teamwork and customer service skills  
  • Bilingual English/Spanish considered an asset
