Job Description

The Physician Liaison is responsible for strategically planning and implementing marketing efforts to improve and increase the awareness of our hospital services with physicians and other health care professionals, hospitals and other organizations or individuals to develop a steady source of patient referrals. This includes coordinating meetings, education sessions, and professional conference exhibits to promote the hospital and educate and attract new referring providers. Will also act as liaison between our hospital and the providers, patients and families. Must be able to travel 50%, overnight 25%.

· Establish and maintain updated marketing master plan which identifies specific patient recruitment targets. Outlines multiple and comprehensive recruitment strategies for each target population, to identify physician groups and areas for incremental volume growth. Development of short and long term goals to support marketing plans and referral development.

· Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with current and potential referral sources, including physicians, mid-level providers, physician office staff, other health care professionals in target markets within six-state catchment region.

· Conducts effective office and professional visits through presentations with specific focus on education of our services, studies and advances. Maintain image in the region as a leader in our designated service line areas to increase referral volume.

· Attends, displays and coordinates hospital exhibits at conferences and meetings at national, state and local meetings and performs appropriate follow-up.

· Ensure day-to-day activities support the hospital’s long-term strategic plan and identify business opportunities to build volume.

· Serves as a liaison between patient referrers and hospital staff when appropriate. Follow-up on all significant referrals and phone calls, and escalate concerns to appropriate departments.

· Suggest performance improvement and marketing strategies based on physician feedback and provide follow-up to physicians.

· Maintain referring provider records that provides complete and comprehensive data on patient referrals, which will serve as a basis for strategy development, initiatives and programs, target hospitals, regions and other recruitment/planning uses.

· Track and analyze referral and market data, particularly to identify the reason for referrals, the referral mechanism and other pertinent information to best understand patient referrals.

· Evaluates payer mix among current referring physicians and explores opportunities to create a more favorable mix.

· Works with Marketing & Communications to ensure availability and promotion of effective marketing resources for providers. Coordinates and helps develop marketing pieces for contacts (e.g. newsletters, flyers, notices, etc.) and web content as needed to assist in meeting referring providers and potential patient information needs.

· Develop and present reports documenting referring activity, successes, trends, problems and accomplishments. Conduct ongoing market assessments and provide intelligence to hospital leadership and departments on referring physician needs.

· Manages liaison expenses based on approved operational budget. Notifies Administration of upcoming item expenses and their impact on the annual budget. Completes expense reports with correct account data and submits to financial services in a timely manner.

· Actively participates in physician liaison conference calls, collaborates within SHC system, and seeks outside resources for best practices and current trends.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, or other related field required.

3 years of experience required.

Valid Driver's License required .
