Hours: Part Time On-Call

Schedule: Variable


Job Summary:

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to join our Short Stay unit of the Surgical Services department!  This position provides care during the pre- and post-operative phase of a patients’ surgical experience, including: phase II surgical recovery, admitting and discharging surgical patients, making pre-op and post-op phone calls, and performing other duties as assigned.


Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland primarily treats patients undergoing procedures: acetabuloplasty, arthroscopy of the knee, wrist and shoulder, closed reduction and percutaneous pinning, tibial lengthening, application of external fixators, ORIF of bone fractures, osteotomy of femur, tibia and foot, epiphysiodesis, club foot correction, tendon lengthening and transfer, cast application, halo traction, spinal fusion, VEPTR insertion and lengthening, tendoachilles lengthening, Leforte maxillary/sagittal osteotomy, otoplasty, repair of cleft lip, nose and palate, rhinoplasty, pharyngoplasty, skin graft, etc.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

·         Graduate of an accredited nursing program

·         Current Oregon RN licensure

·         BLS CPR certification

·         Must have PALS certification or obtain within six months of hire

·         BSN preferred.  Will consider applicants currently enrolled in an accredited RN-BSN program

·         Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

  • Excellent communication and listening skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team, and the flexibility to delegate, prioritize, and adapt in stressful situations

·         Must have the flexibility to alter assignments on short notice and work with diverse personalities and changing situations

·         Ability to work as a  role model for staff, demonstrating problem solving skills and nursing best practices

·         Prefer two years’ experience working in a pediatric ambulatory surgery unit

·         Experience working with our patient population a plus
