Job Description





Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California, the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury and pediatric subspecialties medical center, is looking for highly motivated Orthopedic Cast Technicians to become part of our Orthopedic team.


Full time and per diem positions available, providing assistance to physicians in the application, maintenance and removal of casts, traction, Ilizarov device and other splint or motion device as prescribed. Informs patients/families, staff and students about the use and care of casts, traction and Ilizarov devices; monitors and orders casting and traction supplies and equipment; orients and provides on-the-job training in casting and traction application to Cast Technician trainees and Residents. Monitors budget for the cast clinic and participates in resolving budgetary variances as needed. Evaluates new products and devices for possible future use. Assists in developing and monitoring cast room budget expenditures

Job Requirements

Requires current CPR certification, knowledge of appropriate indications for the types of casts, splints and tractions, medical terminology relative to pediatric orthopedic casting and traction and the ability to use a cast saw safely and correctly and communicate effectively in oral and written form.  Completion of a cast tech training program or previous cast tech and outpatient clinic experience required. Pediatric experience preferred.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable.
