Job Description

Shriners Hospitals for Children - Salt Lake City is an acute pediatric orthopaedic specialty hospital. We are committed to delivering the highest quality of care to children with a multitude of orthopaedic and neuromusculoskeletal conditions. 


We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our Therapy Services department. The OT will provide Occupational Therapy services for a variety of orthopaedic diagnoses to infants, toddlers, preschool, school age, adolescents and young adults. Attends assigned clinics and works with a multidisciplinary team providing the team and patient / family with expertise in Seating and Positioning. 


The right candidate will have graduated with a Bachelor's in Occupational Therapy, Have an OT license to practice in the state of Utah, and have experience working as an Occupational Therapist. 

Job Requirements

Patient Care - Evaluation

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assess, set goals, and plan for care of infants, toddlers, preschool, school age, adolescents and young adults with a variety of orthopeadic needs, to provide the most appropriate seating system for the patient. 

Patient Care - Treatment

  • Patient treatment is carried out in accordance with physical prescription and standards of care. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Specific treatment protocols per treatment procedure pertaining to seating and positioning
    • Demonstrates knowledge of various available seating systems and provides the appropriate system for the patient
    • Knows and follows procedures and precautions, explaining them in terms the patient/family can understand. 
    • Explains procedures and precautions

Patient Care - Planning

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to coordinate the various team members. Planning involves team members, patient / family members, and appropriate community providers.

Patient Care - Documentation and Statistics

  • Documents on each patient in accordance with JCAHO and department standards. Documentation shows: identified treatment goals that are appropriate and specific to the patients needs and severity of his/her disease, condition, impairment or disability; treatment goals and objectives are measurable, described in functional terms/improvements provided by appropriate seating system.

Patient Care - adaptive Equip. and Devices

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills and ability to provide for adaptive equipment needs of the patient. Follows department policy of working through vendors and patient insurance, or donations from outside sources prior to having Shriners provide the equipment.

Professional Growth/Education and Goals

  • Attends all mandatory in services. Attends at least one job-related out of hospital seminar/workshop each calendar year. Formulates and documents personal and professional goals annually.

Clinic Duties

  • Participates and contributes in multidisciplinary clinics as assigned, as well as Ortho clinics. Duties include seating and positioning assessment and recommendations, provide expert information regarding treatment to the rest of the team members.
