Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Greenville is looking for an Insurance Verification Specialist.  This position is responsible for obtaining information on patient's eligibility status with insurance companies to ensure proper coverage and payment for services—while providing exceptional customer service. The Insurance Verification Specialist is also responsible for assuring appropriate insurance verification, prior approvals, and all authorization requirements are obtained prior to the patient's arrival for surgery, during the patient's hospitalization, and after discharge to assist our patients with their insurance needs. Communicate with other departments including admitting / registration, financial counseling, and utilization review.   Understands and adheres to current JC, DHEC, and other state release of information/confidentiality regulations and safeguards.   Maintains confidentiality of any patient information.

Job Requirements

Healthcare or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 1 year experience in medical records, patient access, registration, billing, insurance and/or pre-certification.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience and competency in customer relation skills in a professional environment
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and is self-directed
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Basic medical terminology
  • Exemplary keyboarding skills and experience in patient registration systems and skilled with personal computers
  • Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision


Associates Degree in Business or Healthcare 
Experience with insurance carriers or third party administrators
