Job Description

Part time (24 hour per week) Infection Control and Employee Health Coordinator has knowledge of the development of infectious processes, ability to assess potential infectious disease problems in a hospital setting and take appropriate action. Provides overall direction and coordination of the infection prevention and employee health program for the hospital including education regarding effective precautions to be taken to protect patients, staff, and other persons regarding community-acquired and hospital associated infections. Implements and coordinates occupational employee health activities including regulatory compliance and preventive health activities. Promotes health and safety awareness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Infection Control Activities

• Prepares meeting information for Infection Control Committee.

• Communicates and updates hospital staff on current infection control data during unit rounds, discharge

planning conferences, and at other times as necessary.

• Reviews professional literature/guidelines (CDC, APIC, TJC, OSHA, CMS, State

Health Services, and others as applicable), new products, and changing infection control standards.

• Maintains current knowledge and competency by participating in ongoing activities related to infection

control practices.

• Orients new employees to infection control practices.

• Ensures appropriate infection control practices during building construction/remodeling.

Reporting and Surveillance

• Collects and analyzes data and statistics and prepare reports for designated hospital committees. Reports

to appropriate internal and external organizations as appropriate.

• Reports to local/state health department, as required, for communicable disease reporting.

• Performs total house surveillance for all infections.

• Reviews microbiology reports and reports out unusual occurrences.

Program Management

• Develops policies/procedures and monitors compliance with established policies and procedures; can extrapolate policies and procedures to unique situations.

•Participates in corporate work group teams relative to infection control practices; discusses methods and

procedures for the prevention and/or control of infectious diseases with fellow infection control professionals.

•Completes all mandates state and federal reporting. Stays current with changes in required reporting.

•Participates in evaluating risks to patients and employees after exposure to infectious diseases and

completes work-up if necessary.

•Develops policies relating to health and safety and assesses for occupational hazards/exposures.

Employee Health

• Evaluates risks to patients and employees after exposure to infectious diseases.

• Coordinates occupational injury/illness leaves including the return-to-work process, restricted duty requests,

required documentation and record keeping related to blood borne pathogen exposures.

• Responsible for maintaining the health and medical information of each employee in accordance with state

and federal statutes.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required

RN license in state of practice Required

Certificate in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) Preferred
