Job Summary:

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland is seeking a full-time Volunteer Coordinator and HR Specialist to join our Human Resources team! This position is responsible for conducting a variety of human resources activities including the full cycle recruitment and retention of hospital employees and volunteers. Will also assist with administering our compensation program, onboarding and facilitating orientation, employee appreciation activities, and a number of other HR processes and projects.

Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities:

 Responsible for oversight of SHC-Portland’s volunteer program including recruiting and selection, onboarding and orienting, and retaining volunteers

 Partners with Hiring Managers and departments to build comprehensive recruitment plans, clarify required skills and competencies, and use the best sourcing strategies and techniques for each volunteer category

 Tracks volunteer activities, maintains volunteer database (Volgistics), and provides statistical activity reports

 Maintains positive communications with volunteers, disseminates information, and produces a quarterly volunteer newsletter

HR Specialist Responsibilities:

 Partners with Hiring Managers and HR Team to build comprehensive recruitment plans, clarify required job skills and competencies, and use the best sourcing strategies and techniques for each job category

 Proactively manages candidates and prioritizes requisitions based on metrics and understanding of recruiting goals; Successfully partners with hiring managers to improve responsiveness and timeliness, and to ensure adherence to the selection workflow

 Sources candidates using job board advertisements, networking, social media, events, competitive intelligence, employee referrals, professional outreach, and other sourcing tools; Pursues innovative and creative methods to reach target candidate audiences

 Reviews resumes against job requirements, conducts candidates phone screens/assessments against qualifications and presents to Hiring Managers

 Responsible for scheduling and coordinating phone interviews, in-person interviews, and travel arrangements as needed

 Facilitates new employee onboarding including conducting reference checks and license verification, coordinating background checks and drug screens, and new employee onboarding meetings

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

 2 years’ recruitment experience in a healthcare setting is required

 Experience with volunteer program management is preferred

 Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field is required

 Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

 Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and handle tight deadlines with grace

 Demonstrates strong organization skills and strong attention to detail

 Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, the ability to build rapport, and effective relationship building skills
