Food Service Workers - Part-time 


Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago is a one-of-a-kind international health care system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Our Chicago Hospital provides comprehensive orthopedic, plastic, reconstructive and craniofacial surgery and rehabilitation services for children.  


We currently have part-time Food Service Worker positions available.

These position performs a variety of food service / cafeteria job duties such as cold food production (salads, Jell-O, sandwiches, etc.), relief cashier, assisting cooks, meal services to both patient rooms and cafeteria, and may work in dishwashing area. May also assist in the preparation of a variety of foods under the guidance of the cook. Will also transport food carts to patient floors.


Checks equipment in cafeteria, serving and dining areas to assure that safety and sanitation standards are consistently maintained. Reports any repair or maintenance needs to supervisor and/or maintenance department. Properly labels, dates, and stores all leftovers and opened food items. Responsible for consistently maintaining HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and regulatory standards. Assists in storage and rotation of weekly food and supply deliveries. Cleans work station areas on an ongoing basis and at the end of shift. Completes cleaning assignments per cleaning checklist.


Applicants should have minimally three (3) months of applicable experience in food service, preferably in a hospital setting. One year preferred. 

Job Requirements

Education:  High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience:  Three months minimally applicable experience in food service, preferably in a hospital setting. Additional consideration to those who have had work related experiences cooking. Previous combination of cafeteria and cooking experience highly desired.

Certification:  Current Food Service Sanitation Certificate.
