Job Description

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, this role will provide clinical pharmacy services, pharmacy operational functions and pharmacy student oversight and teaching.  Clinical responsibilities include managing the pharmaceutical care of pediatric acute burn patients, reconstructive burn patients, orthopaedic patients and various surgical specialty patients.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend morning rounds with the medical team and patient care services staff and contribute to the drug therapy management of patients.
  • Utilize the hospitals electronic medical applications and records to analyze patients’ profiles; oversee and evaluate drug therapy orders.
  • Provide quality and timely advice to medical and clinical staff regarding incomplete orders, drug interactions, drug incompatibilities, overdoses and potential toxic effects among others; assist with medication reconciliation during admission, post-operatively and discharge.
  • Assist in inventory management of controlled and non-controlled substances for the pharmacy department and all patient care units; manage automated dispensing devices on all patient care units.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of medications and compounded sterile products in accordance with state, federal and USP requirements.
  • Attend and participate in the medication preparation required during medical emergencies and codes. 
  • Document interventions for drug therapy recommendations, dose evaluations, compatibility, assessments; pharmacokinetic monitoring; drug information provision and medication reconciliation.
  • Participate and contribute to hospital committee work as required.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to the Pharmacy Technicians and the Clinical Pharmacy Students as appropriate.
  • Rotate on-call pager responsibilities during pharmacy off hours.

Job Requirements

 Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy


Current Massachusetts Pharmacy License in good standing.


Minimum of 1-3 years of clinical pharmacy experience with critical care practice exposure in the hospital is preferred. 


Pediatric experience strongly preferred.
