Certified Medical Coder

 

Shriners Hospitals for Children- Northern California, a leading provider of pediatric medical care in the Sacramento area, has an exciting opportunity for a Coder.  This position will work with a growing HIM team and be located directly in the hospital in Sacramento, CA.

 

The hospital is non-profit and focused on providing care to children with an emphasis on orthopedics, burns, and pediatric surgery.  Having been in the area for over 20 years, the nationally recognized clinical staff have treated hundreds of thousands of kids.

Key Duties Include:

·         Analyze and interpret medical documentation in the medical record and assign appropriate coding according to latest ICD-10 guidelines. 

·         Work with providers, HIM, clinical documentation experts, quality, and revenue cycle staff to provide appropriate and actionable education about coding. 

·         Assist in the handling of denials and appeals

·         Work with facility and physician coding for inpatient and outpatient.

·         Enter, retrieve and access data to assist with hospital statistical reports.

·         Provide research and resource support to the HIM Manager and all hospital departments in order to increase accuracy of medical records and ensure efficiency across the organization.

Job Requirements

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certification as well as previous experience with TJC/DHEC standards related to ICD-10/CPT coding guidelines, and physician-coding guidelines required.  Must also possess working knowledge of Microsoft computer applications, 3M system and medical terminology.
